Portrait of a Masterpiece Painted In Oil

I was reviewing an older blog written not too many years ago entitled "It Never Takes A Genius"and I had come across some pictures I had drawn from some digital photos as you see tracing from a picture was my only way out of the ghetto. Indulging at my worst attributes namely thinking about my ethnicity and attempting to make an artistic form in the way of drawing or better still painting in oil was at my door it was my challenge and also my worst subjects namely my ethnicity(Chinese)and art(my drawing became a product of shame and remember to this day I would not admit to who drew a picture of a house when my drawing in school was displayed. I sat in that elementary classroom humiliated by that horrible drawing and would never admit that I drew that monstrosity. Of course if I were a child prodigy excelled at drawing or painting art work I would have gleefully jumped up out of my seat to claim my work at such skillful work of art. These were just two of the things I had not going for me at the time. But I don't feel so bad now as there are many of us who are like this and we can do something about this. Yes I was an ugly duckling who could not draw and the town bullies would call me by racist names and even the nerds would do the same and the prettiest girl in the whole wide world was in my classroom and silently in my heart and in my mind I would ogle her but never tell anyone but my best friend. By the way he wound up winning her heart and beating me up in a gang fight I was mismatched from the beginning and when I lost the fight beaten and gasping for the very life of me I could hear the name calling and the taunts and racial slurs designed to destroy me completely. The funny part about this and yes I do find humor to this story to this day is that the girl I admired with deep passion of the highest order was and is to this day Chinese. She is alive as to this day I think I cannot be absolutely certain but good old Harry Gin the Chinese American who knows every Chinese American I could ever remember…well he would know. And so you ask what is the point of this posting where is this going? I've learned through the internet one can trace to get the main essence of the subject in mind as we were trained in geometry to draw and study lines so I figured why not apply this geometry with which they taught in school to the object in mind needed to be drawn? Anyone can do this it takes no talent and let us face it how many of us can really draw or paint a picture to rival that of the true genius who painted the most recognized portrait of a woman in this world which is of course the Mono Lisa? I did it over a dozen times. Now you try it. Google up or google Portrait of a masterpiece painted in oil which is seven words and what I got were pictures of what appears to be painting of masterpieces done by the various great artists of all time. Do you not see the picture of my mother when you scroll down a bit? And what is the name of that scoundrel who painted that oil painting? Later I can explain. If I can draw then anyone can.

Global Warming

My sources told me it would be hot and this I know for certain the weather forecast can be predicted to a degree enough to make a plan and the plan for me is to seek cover and guard my life from the sun and the hell of any hot summer and summer is without doubt here. As I grow older I thank my lucky stars I am alive for I have seen good able body people younger than I pass on. Of what good am I of knowing anything about the weather to post anything worth your while? We all read from the experts and what they have to say about the weather as we are immensely affected by the weather it is the difference between life or death when life can be so cold or hotter than hell but if lucky enough to be able to survive the elements which prey upon us we can live a full life which is my goal in life. Once a goal in my life was to be like Howard Hughes to be able to be rich and good looking and experienced with the most desirable women that my lifestyle could afford. But come down please I say to myself and one can talk to one's own self when they write a journal and this is precisely what I am doing now. I must come down from the heavens and the stars at least for today I cannot be among the heavens looking up at the clouds and the blue skies for the heat could kill me or at least fry me so bad I look like I was the spokesman for the movie "Towering Infernal" a movie where people got fried from the heat of a fire gone out of control. There is no fun or excitement when coming back from a hobby like tennis or kite flying when the perspiration is flowing and the tan goes far beyond a tan to dry flaking skin. Wear sun screen I warn anyone for the sun can kill more now than I have ever realized as a youngster I never knew it could be this bad. Do as say do not do as I do and I better learn from my own preaching and protect myself. Bill Martin comes to mind and here I go again name dropping. He isn't as famous I don't think as the former New York Yankee manager Billy Martin but nevertheless when I met him on a local radio station I kidded him about his name sounding much like the baseball manager guy. Bill Martin as we all know does the weather reporting and come to think of it I think I will just replace him now and do it myself. All I need now is the page views and the numbers and I might just get the job reporting the weather! But I have not arrived at a conclusion on global warming. Will it destroy the all of us like the atom bomb did to a great number of people of Hiroshima or will we prepare and build better machines with which we can combat the death which stares us in the face? Oh by the way I discussed the differences between the man primarily responsible for the building of the atom bomb and the man who was the father of the nuclear bomb Edward Teller. I say what are the consequences in having the power to kill should we feel guilt when we kill our fellow human beings during war or should we feel a great sense of pride when we can possess a weapon which can kill more people that many of us can imagine? Personally speaking I like the power of technology which has harnessed air conditioning to make us able to survive the killing damage of a long hot summer. You cannot blame me for this certainly not.

When Journalism Becomes Diversified

I'm not your journalist who comes around privileged and cannot be accepted as an American born here in this country I reside in although my uncles and father fought against the axis powers in the second world war. I do not speak for the corporate world but have on occasions exchanged conversations with anglo saxons. When I was on the tennis team way back when the Vietnam War was already down in history in progress or rather being fought as I saw no progress in that war. I was one of the first Chinese playing on a mostly all white tennis team my first year on the tennis team at Oakland Technical High School in Oakland the land of the champion Oakland A's baseball team where they won the World Series many times across the Bay from the five time Super Bowl Forty Niners but at that time didn't happen yet while the white kids spat on me making fun of my ethnicity commenting on how my father looked exactly like Mao Tse Tung the much despised communist dictator and womanizer and anti Christian the world has seen. Being an ethnic minority was not easy and often I would use my last name and hide pretending I was Japanese after all the Japanese made good Hondas and they were popular too. And so Ann Frank hid where she lived in Nazi occupied land never showing herself publicly while I hid my identity and would impersonate a Japanese American. Nevertheless I was a marked man looking over my shoulders for being of the wrong ethnic type among the privilege white race. My underlying message is that a good journalist should be representative from all ethnic backgrounds and not just from the privileged white race. When one cannot see a male Asian face on television in the entertainment industry one might ask where did they go? Just this year I argued before a census taker that the Japanese Americans during the second World War in America were rounded up and put in relocation camps when their names revealed they were Japanese and automatically found guilty by association. Would the American government throw me in jail as they had the Japanese if the motherland of China disagreed with issues in the United States? Although there are very few major league players in tennis with the exception of Michael Chang now retired as a player for some time where are any other players in major league tennis? I wasn't nearly enough of a good player to even think about playing pro but I knew who they and now that I'm turning more of a interest into tennis I see that Brad Gilbert is a commenter for a major television sport show. Tennis still lives for me although I had given it up to concentrate more on chess. But trust me I met him at the tennis courts and my former tennis partner and coach Ed Lopez never wanted to hear how I met up with Brad Gilbert at Davy's Tennis Stadium in Oakland. It was a challenge but I declined his offer to play a match. Back then he was a hot shot twelve year old young man a child prodigy if you ask me because he was good at that age and I knew it but didn't play for money or on bets. But he surprised us all within the local tennis community and became a ranked tennis pro later on in his life. I wrote him a letter a message telling him that China would enter the picture one day and would he be interested in any deals. Of course I was just spinning my wheels as we all are aware that any nation that can excel at the sport of tennis must be from a rich society for there is something to the old saying tennis is a rich man's sport. I will explain later. I've a new tennis racket which is endorsed by Djorkovic the world's number one ranked tennis player. But he doesn't use what he endorses not this Head model one I bought at Costco. Coming up next….what Andre Agassi told me over the air in regards to minority players. What I am driving at is this whole business of the color of our skin with which we as humans sport. There are many stories which attempt to explain the reasoning as to why there is this caste system with humans in regards to why it is thought one particular color to another is a superior human being than another. Yes I have heard of the book "Black Like Me" and no I am not about to call this blog "Yellow Like Me"

Contributions To American Technology and Rocket Scientry

Contributions; Consider the name of an Ah-Tye who I never heard of before until information was sent to me in the form or a list. My father told me when he was alive that all family members with our last name are related. The main stream media types or the professional journalist have not been assigned to cover the story of which engineering types are major contributors worldwide. Little is known about American contributions to the space program with the ethnicity of the Asian community. But in my very own website unless I was dreaming I saw with the credentials of an American scientist with which I followed up with telephone calls to capture a true story not heard much or at all before. One man in my mind can be googled as Warren Ah-Tye. American invention and technological advancement has involved minority ethnic groups not recognized who are prepared to make their presence more known. The American entertainment field is another phase of current events which has not discovered the contributions of the Asian American within the entertainment industry. Consider Jackie Chan of which yes I am a name dropper. Meeting such a celebrity on the air is preferred rather than meeting in person. Yet he has become the Asian stereotypical of what Asian actors are destine for in the martial arts industry. Upon closer examination there are no other roles. Case in point. When prompted if he Jackie Chan desired other roles to play besides martial art roles there were plenty of acting roles but in fields completely foreign to his background. Of the extremely limited number of Asian I was able to ask Jackie Chan a few questions and yes it was his desire to participate in other roles bedsides the roles in martial arts. If his wishes could come true according to what he related to me and the listening audience of KGO radio 810 of San Francisco he would have loved to star with some of Hollywood's super stars. Let me put it bluntly if I may be allowed. Is China a county, a nation which can succeed? Is it still a backward country so far behind the other industrial nations that citizenship is still denied to those particulars such as the Chinese? Once upon a time not that far back in time China was just that. My father knew of Angel Island in the San Francisco area. I cannot cite the exact reasons why the entertainment industry can only find William Hung as the leading star of Hollywood to me it is a phenomenon which I simply cannot explain except when it comes to civil rights Asians I sadly admit are far behind. Besides my father Howard Ah-Tye one of the first male authors of Chinese ethnicity William Hung is also a hero of mine not because he failed at becoming a leading success at the world's rankings of the talent necessary to become a star singer but he was my hero like in the movie Cool Hand Luke where we see the main character resolved to carry on despite all odds were against him to win. United States of America was a sleeping giant when it was attacked by Japan to start World War 11. I think China is another sleeping giant except it does not want war but peace in an environment where it can achieve economic stability not only in it's own backyard but as a player in the world economy.

The NBA and the Championship

So you may ask just what qualifications do I have do I have to make any comments about basketball due to the fact the Oakland city has a basketball team with the name of The Warriors which goes to show I know very little if almost nothing about basketball. I've just been informed that they may be making a move to San Francisco a city in which I claim I know about and travelled to many times to from across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay. Sports is not a foreign thorn in my side in fact I have come to know sports as an ally not an enemy; I have been known to interact with sports figures on the air before. I will cut to the chase. Tall men can do well at playing basketball it does not hurt. Witness one of the tallest players Yao Ming long since retired but he was very tall for a basketball player. Before Yao Ming came along my father a full blooded Chinese like myself told me that no Chinese could never play basketball because simply put Chinese were much much too short. And my father was right until Yao Ming came along from the other side of the world in China near the or at the area of Shanghai. Trust me. I am Chinese. Let me use the San Francisco zoo for instance I was there just yesterday and no I did not attend the Warrior's game today or ever. In fact I have never been to a basketball game. What I saw at the San Francisco zoo were the tallest animals in the world. Why God made them with the longest neck ever is beyond me but there the giraffes stood as tall as any beast could ever stand. In Thailand on television I saw with my very own eyes elephants playing soccer kicking the ball to make points. This is the truth so help me God. I did see the zoo's trainers and no one should tell me that these trainers cannot train the giraffes. It would never be a problem for a giraffe to slam dunk. I don't think Rich Walkolf sports commentator of radio KGO will have to worry about losing his job to me.

Identification of a Journal Writer

In school we were required to take certain subjects and classes such as world history, history, math, algebra, English and then in college we had a repeat of some of these subjects and then more history and English social studies and so forth. I did study for the grades and I got them more or less. It was enough to get the grades for admission of UC Berkeley the only college of my choice other than a community college or JC as it was known. If this blog becomes anything like the E-mail letters I wrote my sisters I'd say it is time to hang things up and find another hobby. I write this blog because as radio talk show host who gave some of his audience tips and job counsel I wrote or write it for the good of the soul the money aspect hasn't come into being as yet although it has been more than four long years and not even a penny. Obviously I have a hard time following directions and sometimes I just wind up where destiny takes me rather than my leading myself around on my own. I'm trying but that is not good enough. If you as an authority need my identification I will show you this blog. You might think of me as a kind of invisible man something like in the book by Ralph Elison who wrote the book Invisible Man. Nevertheless an invention called the drone is or has been out on the market proven to be successful. Since the indoor flying RC remote control helicopter designed for small age children and upwards captivated my interest the drone which does fly outdoors designed to do more than just being a toy. We all know this. I will look into this. I never realized that a hobby of mine would also evolve into a mainstream news item. It is true no one flies kites in this area of Hercules which is a small but great city of California but I have due to my design of a simple invention called the kite launcher which for the past few years allowed for me to enjoy the flight of a kite in my own backyard. The downside of this practice is when kites crash and they do into other people's property and my personal integrity is at stake; I must make up for the intrusions of my model aircraft as it invades the space of my neighbors. However my intentions is to spread harmony and peace upon my community and for us to know that we can all share the wind. I do notice that helicopters are flying very low of recent times which may put a halt to my flying kites in my own backyard. The lessons of playing online chess will not be forgotten and I shall return to this game with passion. At least this is my hope.

The Purpose Of This Journal

The purpose of this journal is for me to report on various news items or subjects relevant to what is being reported by professional journalist some of whom I have worked with on a volunteered basis without payment. It is true that the Asian people and that included myself have suffered so much humiliation and degradation in the past that no broadcasting organization would have an Asian male represent that news station. They would drop in ratings because the background of Asian people in or around the second world war lagged behind the major industrial powers of the world particularly the European powers. To put it bluntly it was white rule. I look like an Asian because I am an Asian but I am an expert in impersonating a Caucasian person because of the decades of residing in America and I was given the chance to be among Caucasians and learn the American English language first hand. When my father was alive from 1912 to 2001 he resided and also was born in America born in the city of Stockton. I say with humor I can impersonate a blond hair racist Caucasian on the radio without makeup because I've been on the radio masking my horrid true identity of having ties with the "Oriental" race. China is a nation with a very large population and at the time of my father's life a very poor nation relative to the industrial powers. Why should the industrialized nations so rich and powerful due to their good fortune of living a time of wealth due to the industrialization share with a country immensely poor and starving after all Caucasian people had to take care of their own. Why should the white people have to support the rest of the world when they the people of color did nothing to further themselves? The color assigned to Asian people unfortunately is yellow for Asian and white for Caucasians and black mainly for people who originated from Africa. By the way the yellow race is a term repugnant to me for obvious reasons. From now on it shall be the golden people. I've been told by the way I suffer from illusions of grandeur more than once. Well how dare I be accused of suffering from illusions of grandeur when I am a person living a grand life of illusions. If only I can fool a few more people into believing I am very important! Realizing that it is my duty to become accountable to my world of reality than living a life of make believe I say of course I am not an authority and I challenge anyone to question what I say. I could be totally way off the mark you must correct me if I am wrong. I never did figure out the proper settings for the mechanics of setting up a good blog although constantly search for ways of you my reader to provide an input. I shall learn in due time. Stay ready for reports on what I will learn on drones for they fly with me and I will fly them and live out dreams when I was very very young with my favorite comic book and television show "Superman" I live a life as though I live a life as an American but one of my neighbors does not know how to categorize me. Am I Chinese or an American? I do not know any more than my neighbor who by the way is black with some Indian blood a good neighbor for over thirty years. I know where he lives!

The Greatest of All Women Athletes

I do not pretend to know nothing about tennis. The question I did have as a talk show caller was for the famed talk show speaker/guest on the Ronn Owens show some years back. The star guest speaker was Andre Agassi and it was my pleasure to ask him a question. His comment to my question stated that he did not see an influx of many people of color other than white athletes into the pro circuit of tennis where the highest level of tennis is dominated by people of the Caucasian race and the reason is that tennis technique and trade secrets of the game is limited to the privilege Caucasian race or the dominate race who have the privilege to gain access to the private tennis clubs. Let us make no doubt about it such club membership require wealth just to join. People of color or non whites simply do not have the money. But as talk show host Ronn Owens indicated what was the Serena and Williams sisters doing at the time my question was being posed? They were dominating in the woman's tennis division headed and coached by their father. Having experience as a small time tennis tournament and former captain of my tennis team for a great high school such as Oakland Technical High School I would have to say the Serena and Williams sister are an exception to the rule. Now what I am saying is nothing new. The Williams sisters have dominated in tennis as equally well as has Oprah Winfrey has as a talk show host and don't tell me I know nothing about talk show hosts. From time to time on occasions I have had to deal with these people on the air and discuss my perspectives on a given subject of discussion be it in agreement with such professional talk show hosts or in disagreement. Put it mildly Serena Williams has clearly defied the color barrier to dominate in the class of the sport world of tennis. There may be others to follow simply put we saw Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball but will tennis be broken any time soon? If it takes a certain amount of great wealth to produce a top flight tennis player then doesn't it appear that a nation exercising great power and economic wealth would be in contention of producing this exactly recipe. Just because the New York Yankees did't reach the World Series each and every year of their play in baseball does not mean that they are through.

True Talent

I'm experienced at talk shows and have remained on occasions a talk show radio caller to the talk show hosts when they call for us to make a showing. Does it take talent to call in as a talk show caller to a talk show host? Absolutely not it does not and this is precisely what such radio stations want from the general public a lone talk show caller who can speak with any sort of an intelligence but not with talent. I think I have and can do this. If I can do so anyone can do so. I don't have any bragging rights but I do see within this crystal ball quite possibly the light to the end of a tunnel. The rumor is that the nation of China just might be seeing a dynasty like it had once before and it might if not already be the number one economic super power in the world but I cannot and will not say any louder least my world around me will come crashing down as it has done so many times when I dream of winning the lottery only for me to realize I'm merely dreaming. Those dreams are nice but then again I don't like being taken for a fool. April's Fool's Day is a good day for God to play that trick on me and I say go ahead play it. On my right hand I can count the famous or not so famous Chinese or Asians. We all know who they are. Make room for one more and I didn't know whether it would happen. In my mind and in the minds of millions there is no Chinese that has the ability or the talent to be a true famous person without dispute. Let me please make an opinion. The new kid on the block has been around for years and I just discovered her. The time will come for me to get my head from out of the sand or at least from out of the skies and stop bragging about my therapy and how great kite flying is which is healing the many wounds sustained from getting the ego of myself beat out of me in chess. It is very hard for me to lose to a human in chess I am a sore loser. Without further ado let me speak of my new found talent who perhaps few of you ever heard of but she is Chinese born in Beijing China and speaks English like an American can. Her name is Yuja Wang and is a classical pianist and she is so red hot on my list in her ability and talent in producing music when she plays the piano that my humiliation in being born Chinese is like it never happened.

When A Writer Reveals A Personal Aspect

Some personal aspects of a writer is most difficult to conceal. For instance revealing my ethnicity was never a point I wanted to reveal but there I was on the air on the radio speaking about issues of the day's events involving racial differences and civil rights of the American people a very big subject of discussion nowadays in the news and to put it mildly we cannot escape this topic of discussion. The biggest act of violence in this country of America involved the American people in a civil war where the fatality rate was the largest of all American wars a time when my great grandfather came to this golden state of opportunity not so much to fight in that civil war but to mine for gold in the California Gold Rush Era. Sorry I am evading the main topic I wished to present and that is the story I rarely speak about to anybody because it is a very personal story of just another life no one should care about. To cut to the chase mind you is that when I was a baby I was attacked and mutilated and I lived through all my childhood with a mutilated nose not to mention my ethnicity which was under attack by many American citizens because as a race of people trying to make a living in America we were known as the Chinese originating from a huge country namely China then a poor and very impoverished nation receiving economic aid from America. It was a third world country living in the dark ages where it was far removed from the Industrialization already enjoyed in the good old USA and I was a target in America like my father was where people we didn't even know would hurl stones and derogatory words at us when we least expected such an attack. My mother herself attacked me and left my nose mutilated and it took me some fifty years later to uncover the cover up but I found the truth from a relative who stated he was there at the time of the attack. It was his assumption that I had known who attacked me but I was totally ignorant that it was my own mother who did this to me. Can I assume now that I ruined my mother's chances to ever consider running for a serious political office because I write and say the truth so help me God? After all it was Norman Mailer the man I spoke to over the air on the Ronn Owens show about his books which had made him one of the most foremost and famous writers of all time but his chances he admitted were ruined when he admitted he stabbed his wife in the breasts with a pen knife. What then were his chances of running successfully for the Presidency of The United States of America? I do believe in separation from the church and state but this I do say about my mother she did not know what she was doing as Jesus said on the cross to his father that he should forgive his tormentors for they know not what they do. Again I do not pretend to be a professional writer I only write blogs and write ads sometimes when I want to sell my car. To date no one has paid me to write anything and thus far this is my choice.

I Can Never Become An American

The significance of this blog is about the news as it occurs within this country I reside called America. I notice through my assess to the statistics that this blog named Journalism Reports is read by mostly citizens within the United States. My fatherland of origin where my great grandfather Ah Dy Lo came from is China where he came to California as written my my cousin Lani-Farkas Ah-Tye. I'm often asked by various sources the mandatory question of what my profile is where I worked and educational background. Up until now I've been rather successful in ducking these types of questions. Even in this posting I will succeed at this mark of being anonymous. But the facts are that my father Howard Ah-Tye was a writer and published by the Chinese Presbyterian Church of Oakland. He often wrote about the racial discrimination that the Chinese faced during his time he spent his life in California. The name of his book is called Resourceful Chinese. This was one of his endeavors which he accomplished in his life with which I wish to highlight in fact through my works dedicated to his life and the hero he was and is to me. The fact of the matter is that I cannot ever become an American provided that racisms is practiced and allowed to occur in these modern times in American and racism does not end over night. The conception that people of color namely those of the white race or the Caucasians have dominated as the the chosen ones with white rule represented by power and rule over ethnic minorities or people of color other than the white race. It does make for a very interesting reality. If I am ever to become an American it is not because I don't have a green card and by the way I never had a green card but it is because racism has existed for untold of thousands of years but America is a very smart nation realizing that there is no place in the society of America for racism to thrive. When racism dies then I become an American and there will be no more legalized racism practiced in this super power nation of The United States of America. Show me a time when racism will die.

I Too Have A Dream

One of my dreams is that the cars we drive will be cars that can fly. This is my fascination with objects that already fly which we can control starting from kites to drones as our play things to aircraft used on a commercial basis. So how far off is this concept car going to be from now. It is for anyone to guess. My guess is that it will happen sooner than we expected. Already in the news there is this car that automatically drives itself. But I have not seen one as yet. But I have flown kites with regularity outside of the kite zone of the Berkeley Marina where kites are a common site to see due to the prevailing winds perfect for kites and sailing vessels and even yachts in fact my dentist will see me soon for more work on my teeth so he can continue to sail his yacht. Here is my confession. I spend more time than the average person looking up at the sky because I am a kite flyer by hobby and those toy helicopters caught my attention when they first came out. Okay yes this is weird a grown sixty-six year old man going through his second childhood. But wait! What do I see up in the sky nowadays that are different. There is a new toy in town which I cannot ignore for they are common tools or objects of flight used for military purposes as we know now sold to the public but commonly known these are not weapons for which the public can use for recreational purposes. But these drones are much much more than toys for they come with cameras and the cost of these drones cost more than what the average teenager on the block can afford because many of the more expensive models suited for the right person can cost into the thousands of dollars. I haven't begun to tell you my dream. I must continue this posting at another time

I took great pride standing beside an imaginary podium reciting a famous speech I learned at Westlake Jr. High School when I stole a look at my good friend's homework assignment which he was required to study and memorize and although I did not have the same class as my friend David Wong I was interested in learning his assignment and took great delight in learning and even competing for this prize this assignment even though it was on my own time no credit whatsoever.  The assignment was knowing about the famous Gettysburg Address of Abraham Lincoln as this famous past President of The  United States of America is to this day a legend and a very important past President of my country and yours.  Some forty years have since eclipsed my imagination and/or memory and here I am standing beside this podium so to speak but in blog form just another way in a written form.   But as I imagine being at a free speech rally when I was a young student I  transgress or fast forward to today reading the Gettysburg Address as if I were still there at Sproul Hall on the campus of UC Berkeley where my memory still serves me well in long term capacity it is too bad now I can never find my car keys.  Quite literally I did read his famous Gettysburg address out loud in private no masses of large crowds or radio listeners to hear me speak this time today.  I was literally in tears to be so privileged to speak the very same speech made by Lincoln in the same era my great grandfather lived when he ventured to America where he lived a good life and desired to stay or for his remains to be in America as written in a book entitled "Bury My Bones" by my cousin Lani Farkas Ah-Tye.  Another man I admired for his speech who did stand at Sproul Hall and make known his ability to lead the free speech movement was Mario Salvio.  The part I remembered best was the part I imagined today as if I were back in school in 1971 at UC Berkeley at Sproul Hall reiterating my favorite part of his speech saying with great emotion that there is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, but you can't take part.  You can't even passively take part.  And you got to put
your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels …upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've  got to make it stop.  And you've  to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.

At one time not too long ago I met Eldridge Clever a member of the former Black Panther Party on a radio station and spoke to him as a caller.  He had written the famous book Soul On Ice if I remembered correctly and so I knew about him as one of the more militant leaders of Oakland the tough town where I lived and worked and studied in school.  But the more powerful influential leader to me was Martin Luther King and I was introduced to his works in civil rights by the very enthused and long time history teacher even to this day Mr. Leroy Votto much to my regret I never met him or spoke to Martin Luther King.  But I studied my history teacher's words very carefully.

Getting back to Mario Salvio he was once remembered for reaching for his listeners his followers and getting them into protective and orderly fashion away from the weapons of authority in as much as this famed speech maker was an activist.  I'm just an old man of  sixty five sometimes looking much younger.  Martial arts is a fine art of exercise and for movie making but as I  tell my son it takes more skill to get out of a fight than it does to get into one.
